Samadhi Hawaii Youth Company:

5th year in the Samadhi Hawaii Youth Company

Lexee started taking aerial classes because Mrs. Nicole (who was her teacher at another dance studio) suggested it to her. She loves everything about the trapeze because it is fun and feels safe to her (even if it hurts!) Some of her favorite tricks include: bridge, man in the moon to icicle, split gazelle into hip hang, half mill circle, scissor-roll around, and on good days, the fool - without ankle protection!

She enjoyed learning the handstand to bridge to sitting to airplane acrobatic move because it washard at first but Ms. Erzsi and Mr.Chris made it look so cool and helped everyone succeed. Lexee loves to performbecause being onstage feels like home where she can be a drama queen and all her friends and family can cometo support her! Her other hobbies include dance, even more so now that she started pointe work. Lexee would like tobe just like her older sister, Kylee, because she is pretty, smart, good at everything, and an amazing dancer - the whole package! Adele is Lexee's favorite musician because she can sing and play instruments and her songs are so touching. When she grows up, Lexee would like to be a famous Hollywood star, so that she can dance, act, and shop all the time!

4th year in the Samadhi Hawaii Youth Company

Aviva started taking classes at Samadhi after seeing Miss Nicole and Miss Andrea perform at the Hawaii State Museum one summer and became mesmerized. Once she started, she immediately fell in love with silk. She performed in LA with Le Studio and participated in the Samadhi/Le Studio summer exchange program and the following summer completed the youth training program at The National Circus School in Montreal where she got to try lots of new apparatus as well as juggling.

Her favorite apparatus is trapeze although she loves all of them. Her favorite aerial skill is “all drops!” What she loves most about Samadhi is the ohana and how much fun she has with all of her Samadhi friends, performing in front of crowds (especially if it is with live music by Taimane Gardner!) and the fun costumes and makeup she gets to wear. Aviva also does competitive gymnastics, piano, loves to surf, swim and draw.

Kalia began taking aerial classes because she used to do Capoeira and Ms. Jamie encouraged Kalia's mom to sign her up. Her favorite apparatus is the ring. Her favorite silk skill is the double footlock split wind up to a hooked foot (the Youth Company refers to it as Bonnie's move - refering to a former Youth Company member who used to do that move regularly).

Her favorite acrobatic skill is the High Bird. She likes performing because it is fun. She also likes to draw, skateboard, and surf. Her mom is her role model. When she grows up, she would like to be in Cirque Du Soleil.

Kiriana was introduced to aerial silks by her friend Kalia; after trying it, she was hooked! Hammock is her favorite apparatus and the drop she likes most on silks is the Big Momma. Two high is the acrobatic skill she loves to perform. She thinks that entertaining people is fun because she can fill the room with energy, excite the crowd, and leave them amazed! Kiriana also dances ballet, surfs, skateboards, does art, and enjoys traveling. Her parents are her role models because they are kind, positive, and support her through everything. She is inspired by the music of Sam Smith. Her dream is to perform with Cirque du Soleil as an aerialist/acrobat.

2nd year in the Samadhi Hawaii Youth Company

Tiana has always been interested in the aerial arts and she started classes when she found out about Samadhi Hawaii. Her favorite apparatus is the silk and her favorite skill is the triple wrap double straddle drop. Her favorite acrobatic move is a back- handspring. She likes to perform because she can express herself by showing people what she loves to do.

Her other hobbies include  ballet, jazz, and acrobatics. She loves to listen to the music of  Ingrid Michelson. Her mom is her role model because she is always  supportive and Tiana would like to give her future children the same  kind of encouragement. Tiana likes to help people so her goal is to  one day become a surgeon.

Justise decided to take aerial classes because her friend Kiriana encouraged her to. She loves learning drops on her favorite apparatus, the silk. Her favorite acrobatic move is four steps. She feels that performing with Samadhi Hawaii is a gift and it is her favorite thing to do because it feels like flying. Her other hobbies include playing the violin and spending time with friends.

Anuhea is her favorite musician. When she grows up, Justise would like to keep performing with Samadhi Hawaii and become a doctor. Mrs. Nicole is her role model because she performs so beautifully and she pushes all her students to become better performers.

1st year in the Samadhi Hawaii Youth Company

Hikari was inspired by a friend in the Youth Company to try aerial lessons at Samadhi in 2013; she had so much fun, she decided to work extra hard in classes to audition the following year.  Her apparatus of choice is the silk because it is the least painful and there are a lot of exciting drops to learn, her favorite being the no-handed backpack sequence.  The basket toss is the acrobatic skill she enjoys the most because there is a moment of free falling.  Hikari also enjoys surfing, skateboarding, and doing art.  She aspires to be a pro surfer when she grows up.

1st year in Samadhi Youth Company.

Aiko began taking Samadhi classes when she was six years old. Her favorite apparatus is the hammock, and (after overcoming her initial fear) she loves the drops. Her favorite acrobatic event is the human jump rope wherein she acts as the rope.

Aiko’s other passion is gymnastics, and she particularly loves competing, having already participated in four meets. Her favorite event is the bars, though she loves cartwheeling and demonstrating her floor routine.

When she’s not in the studio or the gym, she’s lounging with her books and playing with her cats. Her favorite authors are Kate DiCamillo, Nick Bruel, Rick Riordan, Dav Pilkey, Raina Telgemeier, Brian Selznick, and Lemony Snicket to name a few.

Aiko’s inspiration is Kacy Catanzaro, the first woman on American Ninja Warrior to compete in the finals, She one day hopes to be a versatile athlete like that. Being the youngest member of the Youth Company, Aiko looks up to the other girls as her role models because they’re so talented and graceful.

Aiko aspires to grow up to be a gymnastics coach, aerial instructor, and to complete the course on American Ninja Warrior.
